Area Animal Shelters Partner for ‘Adopt ‘till you drop!’ Mega Adopt-a-thon Event at White Marsh Mall

All Fees Waived to Find Homes for All Pets

Baltimore (October 27, 2016)—Five local animal shelters, the Maryland SPCA, BARCS, Baltimore County Animal Services and Baltimore Humane Society, each a member of the Baltimore Animal Welfare Alliance, along with the Humane Society of Harford County, are working together to find homes for all of their adoptable pets by holding an ‘Adopt ‘till you drop!’ mega adopt-a-thon at White Marsh Mall on Saturday, November 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All fees will be waived for adopters.

“We can’t tell you how excited we are to hold our first ever mega adopt-a-thon at White Marsh Mall,” said Katie Flory, director of community affairs for the Maryland SPCA. “All of our adoptable pets from our five shelters will be under one roof to give people an opportunity to see all of our pets.”

‘Adopt ‘till you drop!’ will take place inside White Marsh Mall in the space previously occupied by Sports Authority. All adoptions are first-come, first served and regular adoption procedures for each shelter still apply. Potential adopters should bring with them a valid photo ID. Out-of-state residents are eligible to adopt.

“Some potential adopters are reluctant to visit an animal shelter because they believe it would make them sad,” said Jennifer Brause, executive director at BARCS. “While great things happen at all of our shelters every single day, this provides people a chance to meet pets outside a shelter environment.”

Adoptable pets will go home with their new families the day of the event. All pets will have been spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

“Shelter pets make incredible pets and most are homeless by no fault of their own,” said Melissa Jones, V.M.D., director of Baltimore County Animal Services. “With more than 100 pets to meet, including puppies, dogs, kittens and cats, we encourage anyone who has been thinking about adding a new pet to their family, consider adopting rather than shopping for a pet.”

The first 150 attendees will receive goodie bags filled with coupons, pet treats and toys. White Marsh Mall is located at 8200 Perry Hall Boulevard, Baltimore, 21236.
