If you've ever been embarrassed by your dog's wailing, screeching, or lunging when you pass other dogs on walks, this is the class for you!
In Reactive Rover, you'll learn how to see your dog's earliest stress signals, practice how to handle them in a safe, non-judgmental environment, and help teach your dog that other dogs are nothing to worry about.
Reactive Rover consists of five 90-minute sessions with you and your dog, along with a mandatory 1-hour orientation for you alone. Every dog session is outdoors. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Be prepared for potential slippery terrain.
Once you've registered, you may attend any of the orientation classes prior to your selected class time. In orientation, you’ll receive an initial plan and start learning how to read your dog's earliest signals that they are uncomfortable.
Over the course of five weeks, your dog will be exposed to new dogs and new locations, and you'll learn through practice and observation how to best handle your dog's reaction. To participate, you'll need a body harness (such as Freedom harnesses, which are available for purchase at the MD SPCA adoption center), a hands-free leash, and a second standard leash. No corrective collars or extending/flexi-leads are allowed.
To aid in training, please bring treats your dog loves to every class!
LENGTH: 90 MIN
Every session begins at 8:30 am.
