Service Learning Volunteer Opportunities

We offer some service learning opportunities. Hours for civic organizations, clubs and schools may be completed at the discretion of the Volunteer Manager.

Please note:

  • All service learning volunteers must give 48 hours notice to the Volunteer Manager if written documentation of service is needed.
  • Appropriate documentation of the service learning hours needed must be provided to the Volunteer Manager before any service learning hours can be completed.

Service Learning volunteers must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be at least 17 year of age. (Parent or legal guardian permission needed to complete hours if under 18.)
  • Service learning volunteers will be assigned laundry/dishes duties, shelter cleaning or to other areas of the grounds as deemed appropriate.
  • You must be able to complete your hours during our business hours.
  • Schedules are based on shelter needs and once a schedule is set, volunteers must follow this schedule unless previous arrangements have been made with the Volunteer Manager.

If you need service learning hours and are interested in volunteering for the Maryland SPCA, you can begin the application process now by completing an application. The questions in the application are designed to ensure that your volunteer experience is positive for both you and the animals.

After you have filled out the application, please fax it to Katie, Volunteer Manager, at 410-235-3173. If you have any questions, please contact Katie by email or phone at 410-235-8826, ext. 137. After receiving your application, Katie will contact you to arrange an orientation meeting to discuss your volunteer interests and the MD SPCA’s opportunities.
