Court-Ordered Community Service Opportunities

No community service hours will be granted to volunteers with felony convictions or for any animal abuse related charges.

Court-ordered community service volunteers must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Your charge must be a misdemeanor offense or “PBJ.”
  • Volunteers are subject to a background check.
  • You must be able to provide documentation that the charges meet our guidelines.
  • Court-ordered community service volunteers will only be granted hours by performing duties such as: laundry/dishes, cleaning our shelter or cleaning other areas of the grounds as deemed appropriate.
  • Court-ordered community service volunteers must be able to work in a self-directed environment.
  • Volunteers must be able to complete hours during our business hours or when the appropriate staff member is available.
  • Schedules will be based on shelter needs and once a schedule is set, volunteers must follow the schedule unless previous arrangements have been made with the Volunteer Manager.

If you need court-ordered community service hours and are interested in volunteering for the Maryland SPCA, you can begin the application process now by completing an application. The questions in the application are designed to ensure that your volunteer experience is a positive for both you and the animals.

After you have filled out the application, please fax it to Katie, Volunteer Manager, at 410-235-3173. If you have any questions, please contact Katie by email or phone at 410-235-8826, ext. 137. After receiving your application, Katie will contact you to arrange an orientation meeting to discuss your volunteer interests and the MD SPCA's opportunities.
