Why are pit bulls the breed most surrendered to Baltimore area shelters? Sheer numbers! More and more pit bulls are bred each year, and their population numbers are staggering. The Maryland SPCA is working with pit bulls and their owners to help break the breeding cycle and focus on lifesaving. Many pet owners cannot afford the cost of spaying or neutering their pit bulls through local veterinarians. The Maryland SPCA's Pit-Fix program makes it easier for those on a fixed income to spay or neuter their pit bulls and obtain low-cost vaccines and treatments.
