ESSENTIAL DUTIES and JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead all fundraising efforts, including preparation of annual development plans and corresponding financial projections, for the approval of the Executive Director and the Board.
  • Supervise, lead, mentor and motivate a fundraising team of four, including:

             Senior Development Officer – Major Gifts and Corporate Giving

             Annual Fund and Database Manager

            Development Associate – Grants and Workplace Giving (part-time)

           Development Coordinator

  • Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee the annual fund campaign, including a $1 million direct mail.
  • Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors.
  • Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish relationships and effective communications with them.
  • Build the planned giving program.
  • Oversee fund raising special events, working closely with the Events Manager and Communications Director.
  • Direct periodic capital campaigns and other major gift fundraising initiatives.
  • As the representative of the senior leadership team, work closely with the Board’s Development Committee to plan and implement the development program. Provide guidance, support, and regular reports on progress toward annual fundraising goals and strategic goals as outlined in the SPCA’s Strategic Plan.
  • Oversee preparation of periodic development progress reports, including financial projections.
  • Oversee fundraising database, tracking and reporting systems, and prospect research.
  • Oversee and closely monitor donor stewardship, cultivation and MOVES management plans, ensuring that the top 100 prospects have individual annual plans.
  • Collaborate closely with the Communications Director to:
  • create collateral materials and other publications to support fundraising activities.
  • develop a community outreach program that is aligned with and supports annual fundraising plans.
  • communicate and manage expectations of the Event Manager.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must embrace the mission of the Maryland SPCA.
  • Have knowledge and experience in fundraising strategies and tactics, particularly annual fund and major gift fundraising.
  • Possess a strong business acumen.
  • Possess the interpersonal and leadership skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers.
  • Strong interpersonal and excellent writing skills.
  • Be a “self-starter” and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls.
  • Be extremely organized, detail-oriented, and exhibit “follow through” on tasks.
  • Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability.
  • Have knowledge and experience with Raiser’s Edge.
  • A bachelor’s degree, with an advanced degree or CFRE certification a plus.
  • 7-10 years minimum experience with a track record of success in closing major gifts of $25,000 or more.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is primarily performed in an office setting.
  • Frequent sitting, use of computer keyboard and telephone with some bending, stooping and walking.
  • Will occasionally work in setting-up, staffing, and breaking down special events.
  • Cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies are routinely present.
